Sons are a heritage from the Lord, children a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are sons born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They will not be put to shame when they contend with their enemies in the gate.

Matt on the Mat

This post is all about this guy Matt. This is my friend Skeeter's youngest son. This guy is a pleaser, he loves to make people happy. He is a happy guy and a hard worker. Soft hearted and loyal. I have known him to come over looking for Carter and end up playing with Cael and Quincy for hours. He spent New Years Eve over here and is just like one of the family.

Tonight I went to a Lisbon wrestling meet. I must say, it is disappointing to have kids unable to wrestle due to bad grades and lack of better judgement decisions. Happens every year lately it seems. Start the year out with high hopes only to have kids be kids and then disappointment occurs. But sometimes when things like this happen, it gives others the opportunity to shine. Bring on Matt - weighing in at 144(it is ok to say weight when you are a guy - this would never fly if he were a girl) he stepped up to the plate and wrestled 152 tonight. Why? Because the varsity 152lber was in street clothes, unable to get the grades needed to be eligible to wrestle. Did Matt go out there and pin his guy? Nope, in fact, he did not win either match. But let me tell you, I was proud of this guy. Why? Because he did more for the team by going out there then the other guy sitting in street clothes. Would the other guy have won both those matches? My guess is yes. But who cares? It is irrelevant. We will never know. What we do know is that Matt contributed to the team tonight. He learned, he was part of the action, and he stepped up willing to please his team.

My eyes had a slight tear when his name was announced. Matt - varsity wrestler as a freshman! Willing to do what the coaches and team asked of him tonight. Way to go Matt - keep working hard - I just know your day is coming - the day when all this hard work, loyalty, and willingness to do what is asked of you all comes back tenfold!
